Ebbon-Dacs launches Android version of MoDel vehicle delivery and collection solution

Oxford-based online solutions provider, Ebbon-Dacs, has launched MoDel Android, a new, Android version of its vehicle delivery and collection solution, MoDel, for use on tablet computers to bring even greater functionality to the market-leading system.

MoDel is a joint venture between Ebbon-Dacs and motor accessories supplier, VGroup International which completely automates the new vehicle delivery and used vehicle collection process, allowing users to remarket their vehicles more efficiently and effectively.

One of the early adopters of new MoDel Android is logistics company, Cupio Vehicle Management, based at Witney, Oxfordshire, which handles the delivery of some 300 new vehicles a week around the UK on behalf of major leasing companies.

Cupio VM has around 55 trade-plate delivery drivers who have all been equipped with two types of tablets enabled with the MoDel App; standard 7-10 inch models with WiFi connections and 10-inch Lenovo tablets fitted with GPRS for delivery and collection in remote locations, such as the Shetland Isles.

Cupio VM business development director, Richard Hawkins, said the introduction of MoDel had made a huge difference to his business.

“We have grown our business by 50% since introducing MoDel Android and now handle around 15,000 deliveries a year. But we will be able to take that to 20,000, around 400 a week, with the next stage of the development.

“MoDel has the ability to remove all the paper from the delivery and collection process, which frankly can be a nightmare otherwise, and to save us potentially huge fees for missed damage. At the moment only  around 15% of our jobs come through MoDel, while the rest are relayed via text messages or paper requests, which creates a huge opportunity for error.

“But we are now moving to the next stage of the development, when all our delivery and collection orders will come electronically through MoDel, in an entirely paperless environment,” he said.

This is being achieved through the creation of a new web portal that Ebbon-Dacs is building for Cupio over the next six months to fully automate its logistics business.

“The new project is very exciting and a paperless society will be a dream come true. Not only will it remove the chance of errors of commission but it will speed up payments from leasing companies to dealers, and as a consequence from dealers to ourselves,” said Hawkins.

The MoDel solution is currently being used by seven major contract hire and leasing companies, who between them operate more than 430,000 company vehicles.

All electronic delivery and collection information generated through MoDel is automatically uploaded and immediately available their files in Leaselink, the fleet industry’s leading vehicle e-procurement platform.

With its latest functionality and features, MoDel Android can also now be used by logistics companies to deliver and collect vehicles for leasing companies which are not currently users of Leaselink.

The latest generation includes improved photographic functionality to more accurately record and assess the condition of collected vehicles, along with more detailed, but easier to use, damage reporting which can be relayed instantly to end users, including leasing companies, auction houses and used car dealers.

The damage reporting functionality has been extended, using a ‘dynamic flat car’ schematic to allow specific areas of the car to be captured in more detail, including individual items of the vehicle’s specification.

The ‘walk-around’ photographic functionality allows greater use of the tablet or smart phone’s camera to take ad hoc photos of the car being collected, as well as allowing leasing companies to identify any areas of the vehicle they would specifically like to focus on.

This vehicle condition information can then be uploaded instantaneously to trade sale websites, allowing used car traders to bid for the vehicle in an electronic environment, helping cut down the remarketing period to as short a time as possible.

Robert Pilkington, managing director of Ebbon-Dacs’ Leaselink International division, said: “Cupio Vehicle Management is fully embracing the functionality that MoDel Android provides and, as a result, expects to double its business in the next six months.

“MoDel has proved to be a real success since launch and the introduction of the new Android functionality enhances it suitability and practicality in the new car delivery and used vehicle collection process.

“We  have seen significant demand for MoDel because of its ability to completely automate the delivery and collection process and provide instant uploads into Leaselink,  which has allowed leasing companies to react far more quickly to vital remarketing information than they were able to before.

“MoDel Android forms the integrated delivery and return vehicle component of our Leaselink Next Generation platform. With the improved usability and capability of this new version we hope our customers will gain increasing process benefits going forward” he said.
